I am very sorry to hear of Scott's passing. I am an old friend who grew up with Scott. A group of us in the old neighborhood  were thick as thieves. I have great memories of hanging out with Scott - laughing, listening to music, playing video games and getting into a little bit of trouble. Scott was a kind, funny, smart person and he will be missed.

Scott frequently joined the SDRR crew for snacks and drinks on our many runs. We will miss you, Scott.

Scott was always such a positive and supportive friend on our weekly runs. We always loved chatting with him about his many travels, career, plant care and everything in between.

One of my greatest memories were Scott's absolute perfect Christmas cookies that our Run Club was lucky enough to sample. He inspired me to push myself with random long runs and also to enjoy the local weekend 5ks. Scott shared his heart with those around him, was incredibly kind and will be terribly missed.

I'm so saddened to hear of Scott's passing. I met Scott through SDRR and enjoyed spending our Wednesday nights running together and training for the San Diego Holiday Half Marathon. Scott was so kind, genuine, and a wonderful motivator.  Despite me leaving the running group, I loved logging into Strava and seeing his training runs posted and seeing him working towards a PR. May you enjoy easy long runs, my friend. Sending condolences and strength to his family and friends.

I was saddened to hear the news of Scott's passing. I met him through our weekly running group, and over the years we shared countless stories about our travel adventures. The last time we spoke earlier this year, we had a wonderful conversation about life that was filled with laughter, I especially remember our conversation about his dream of moving to Thailand.

Rest in peace, Scott. My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and everyone whose life he touched.

To his family and everyone else who befriended and worked with,  went fishing with, played cribbage with, ran, hiked and camped with, attended sporting, comedy,  concerts and numerous food and beverage festivals with, went motorcycle riding with, to everything else in between with Scott, in and around the Greater San Diego Area, we as well as Scott are and were better for having had him in our lives. All of us knew and interacted with Scott in similar ways yet we all had different experiences and memories of and with him that will live on in our memories as we look back at photos taken of us partaking in various activities together here in California, Minnesota, overseas or wherever else his life traversed.  Scott's passing at the young age of 48 is another reminder to us all to not take life too serious all the time and to enjoy and embrace those closest to us and to live life to its fullest, whatever that is for us all, and to most importantly, stay connected with and maintain positive relations with those in our everyday lives. One of the interesting things I learned about Scott through the years is that he had been doing a lot of deep thinking about his life and life in general and had began to covert to Buddhism and had been living a more peaceful life, which may explain why he had developed an interest in the people and culture of Southeast Asian countries.  -- Sincerely, Michael O'Connor

I was very saddened to learn of Scott’s passing. He had a kind heart. Scott was passionate about so many things, ranging from cribbage (he managed a San Diego cribbage meetup group) to cheese curds (which he generously shared when he returned from trips to Minnesota)- and of course running with his friends… often wearing his signature orange shirt. Scott was a good man, and he will be missed by all of us. My thoughts are with his family.

I met Scott at the San Diego Reluctant Runners weekly run group.  He started coming to the group soon after I moved back to San Diego.  I enjoyed talking to Scott especially about our mutual travels, our 1/2 marathon training woes as well as participating with many social events such as hiking up at Joshua Tree NP and attending our annual Padres games.  He made delicious cookies for our Thanksgiving and Christmas runs. I am so sad to hear about his passing. He will be missed by all of us at SDRR. Rest in peace, friend.

I was deeply saddened to hear about Scott’s passing.  I met Scott through the  Cribbage club that he started.   Scott came up with creative solutions  to keep the club going virtually throughout the pandemic. The club eventually started to meet in person weekly and Scott welcomed players that were new to the game and seasoned players alike.  He enjoyed sharing his knowledge of the game with the group.  I also knew Scott through the San Diego Reluctant Runners group that met every Wednesday evening and had group events as well. Scott loved participating in the many run events in San Diego.  I will miss seeing Scott at the weekly group runs and sharing banter about growing up in the Midwest and chatting about football.  It was great to hear about his many travel adventures.

Scott had a quiet presence but a warm smile, and I am so deeply saddened to hear of his passing. We became friends through the San Diego Reluctant Runners, where he was such a wonderful part of our community. I will always cherish our chats about vacations, his recommendation to check out the band The Pineapple Thief, and how he always joined the fun at our bonfires, Padres games and brewery tastings. He will never be forgotten, especially his homemade Thanksgiving cookies.

Scott was a member of San Diego Reluctant Runners and often joined us on Wednesday nights for our social 5k and other events.  Though quiet by nature, he always had a dry sense of humor and a spirit of adventure that surprised anyone who got to know him. 

Scott showed us that the quietest people often have the biggest stories. Thank you for the miles, the laughs, and the reminder to live life on your own terms. May the roads ahead always be open. We'll miss you.

I am very sorry for Scot's passing. Scot and I had worked together for over 10+ years. Although we were in different location and had never met we communicated via phone calls and numerous emails. Scot was easy to work with , helpful, technical, knowledgeable and kind.  Scot will be missed by many of his colleagues. Rest in peace.

Scott and I were colleagues early in his career in the early 2000s.  I enjoyed his quiet humor, generous smile and keen intellect to manage a very complex software build system.   It was a delight to see more recent photos of Scott there with his catches, his happy smile there undiminished from what I recall from some 20 years ago when we last worked together.

Scott was a great person and even a  better friend.  Scott went with us on numerous Houseboat fishing trips over the years and we all had a great time.  We had so many fun times with Scott over the years.  He was a very intelligent person who loved to have fun!  One thing I remember about Scott is that when you were talking to him about something, he would say, "Well You know..." and then proceed to tell you all about it.  He was one of a kind and will be missed by many.

Sorry to here of his passing we had many adventurous times fishing with scott on our fishing trips up north.  My greatest memories was when I said it's so hot, I think we should sleep on the roof and he took a sleeping bag and went up and slept outside on top of the houseboat all night long, he woke up a little damp. We had good timeon the houseboat.

Our U.S. / Canada fishing group of guys often included Scott.  A great guy and always took great fishing photographs. Scott left his allergies in Minnesota for San Diego. Ten years ago, he flew back to Minnesota for my 'surprise' 50th birthday party in Voyageur's National Park. Last time I saw Scott in person. He will be missed by all!
