When she was about 3 years old, they moved onto a farm in Blythe, California where her father was employed for several years until finally settling in Riverside where she started to school. She mixed well with her schoolmates and found school enjoyable, a trait that came into full bloom as her life progressed. She became self-taught in playing both the piano and guitar. Although blessed with many talents, music seemed to be the one she enjoyed most. At age 19 she married a former school mate, Chester Skinner.
During the following years, she gave birth to 5 wonderful children: Edward, Joel, Julia, Andy and Melissa, eventually, becoming the matriarch of 75 individuals spread over 5 generations. Barbara was loved and admired by everyone who knew her. She was an avid reader and we enjoyed many evenings with the family watching JEOPARDY on television, where she always outscored the rest of the family. She continued her educational interests and taught her family a great deal about living a Godly life and developing their personal skills. She carried about her a certain presence of great character, nobility and respect. Everyone loved and admired her. She had impeccable taste and refused to settle for anything short of the best for her family in everything she did.
Barbara will be sorely missed but we are comforted with the knowledge of open arms awaiting her as she makes her new home with loved ones and our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She left to be with Him, January 28.
