Frank Edward Hayden passed away peacefully at home on December 1, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. He was 67 years old.
Born on June 12, 1958, Frank was the beloved son of Jack and Marie Hayden and grew up in Fresno, California. He attended Bullard High School, earned his undergraduate degree from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and later completed a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from Santa Clara University.
Frank built a distinguished career as an electrical engineer, working at Watkins-Johnson and GEC Plessey before co-founding Mixed Signal Systems, where he combined his technical brilliance with a spirit of innovation and entrepreneurship.
He gave generously of his time to his community, volunteering with the Santa Cruz Symphony and serving on the board of the Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History. Frank was also deeply committed to service abroad, volunteering with World Wide Smiles in Uganda and with Great Shapes in the Caribbean to support international dental clinics.
An avid San Francisco Giants fan, Frank loved being outdoors. He was a devoted fisherman and dedicated runner for more than 25 years, including many joyful years with the Hash House Harriers, where he formed lifelong friendships. His adventurous spirit took him across the globe—he proudly visited all seven continents.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 33 years, Anne; his siblings, Karen, John, Gene (Laura), Brian (Laura), Betty Ann, and Tony (Michelle); and his beloved niece, Allison, and nephews, Jack, Bill, and Pat.
A celebration of Frank’s life is being planned for early in the new year. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank’s honor may be made to the Community Foundation of Santa Cruz County.
