Jim will be remembered for his sense of humor, love of family and his gracious smile. He told heartfelt stories of his early family life in Aberdeen, South Dakota: hour long car rides to the family lake house, running around with the dogs in the forests and always home late for dinner. After the death of his father in 1937, he moved with his mother and 4 brothers to Los Angeles to start a new life. Here he tells the story of how he met his future bride, Patricia Hewson, while hanging from a tree as Patsy walked along the sidewalk below. At University High in Santa Monica, he held a long-standing city-wide track record in the 880 sprint. In 1944 he enlisted in the military with the Navy Air Force during WWII. After the war he received a BA in business from UCLA, married Patricia Hewson and began his long career as a mortgage banker.
In 1960 he moved his family to San Mateo, California joining the San Francisco mortgage banking firm of ES Merriman, eventually serving as President until his retirement. Jim loved the ocean, sand and surf. His family and friends have an abundance of treasured memories on the beaches of California and Hawaii. He continued his love of an active life on the golf course until 92 years of age. His son James Jr., younger brother John Walker, nephew Jason Walker and son-in-law Bill Farrar joined him in camaraderie on the greens. He will be deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia and son-in-law Bill Farrar. He is survived by his children Deborah, Carolyn Farrar, John and James Jr. In addition, he is survived by his late-in-life partner Patricia Maclean, by his grandchildren Patricia (Anthony) Petro, Melissa Farrar, Steven (Brynn) Walker and Sarah Garibay. Great grandchildren Alexandra Petro, Josephine Petro, Otto Walker, Archibald Walker and Charlotte Garibay.
