Scott Richard Hellstrom

After a courageous 18-month battle with colon cancer, Scott peacefully passed away, surrounded by the love of his family. Though his illness has ended, the joy, kindness, and positivity he shared throughout his life will continue to live on in the countless people fortunate enough to have known him.

Born in Murray, Scott grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was a fun-loving Dead Head, Giants, Jazz and Niners fan. After graduating from the University of Utah with a Mechanical Engineering degree, Scott moved to Santa Clara, California where he worked as a Safety Engineer. He was key in drafting certain semiconductor safety standards and founded Belay Engineering. Despite an impressive career that took him around the world, he was always most devoted to his family. He was a loving husband, a proud father, and an adoring grandfather whose greatest happiness came from watching his family grow and thrive.

For 45 years, Scott and Julie shared an extraordinary partnership. Together they built not only a beautiful family but also a remarkable community of lifelong friends. Their life together was filled with laughter, adventure, music, incredible meals, and an abundance of love. They often said they felt lucky to enjoy an "embarrassment of riches," though they would always have wished for more time together.

Scott had a gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and at home. Whether through a thoughtful conversation, a shared meal, a perfectly chosen song, or simply his warm presence, Scott left every room brighter than he found it.

His optimism, generosity, and unwavering belief in the goodness of people created a legacy that will continue for generations.

Scott is survived by his mother, Carolyn Kipp, wife Julie, sons Charlie (Adell) and Ben (Maggie), daughter Sara (Erick), grandsons Landon, Atlas and Hayden, brother Mark (Liz); stepbrothers Bruce (Kay), Scott (Paula), Blake, Scott Muir (Pam) and stepsister Kathy (Whit) Clayton and their families.

Family and friends are invited to join us at either or both Celebrations of Life:

- Sunday, August 23, 1:00–3:00 p.m. at Montague Hall in Santa Clara, California followed by a gathering at the family home.

- Saturday, September 26, 1:30–3:30 p.m. at the First Unitarian Church 569 South 1300 East in Salt Lake City, Utah. For those able/interested we’ll stroll to the gravesite at Mount Olivet and gather in the evening at the home of Diane Hill and Mike Filben.

The family encourages everyone to remember Scott in the moments he loved most: when you hear a favorite tune, savor a wonderful bite, pour a glass of Cabernet, or feel an unexpected hug from the universe. In those moments, his spirit is never far away, still spreading the positivity, warmth, and love that defined his life.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the many friends and loved ones who surrounded Scott with encouragement, hope, and unwavering support throughout his journey. Every visit, message, meal, prayer, and act of kindness was profoundly felt and deeply appreciated. The love you shared carried Scott and his family through the most difficult days and continues to bring comfort.

Though Scott's earthly journey has ended, the music, laughter, friendship, and love he gave so freely will continue to echo in the hearts of all who knew him. His was truly a life well-lived; he will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
