Shirley Jane Bartlett was born in Ferguson, Missouri, on October 5, 1933, and passed away peacefully on June 19, 2026, in Hanford, California. In her teens following the early death of her father, the family moved to Springfield Missouri, where she attended Central High and met her future husband, James R. Voyles. They married in September of 1953 and had two children, Kelly and Janet.
Shirley enjoyed a long career at Southwestern Bell in Operator Services and the Employment Office in Springfield and later transferred to Kansas City to continue working in the Employment Office as an Interviewer. After Jim and Shirley both retired, they moved to their home on Bull Shoals Lake in Arkansas until Jim’s health required they move back to Springfield.
After Jim’s death in 1994, Shirley relocated to Las Vegas where she married Sam Graves. They moved to San Juan Capistrano and after Sam’s death, Shirley relocated to Hanford, California, in 2017 to be nearer to her son.
Shirley had many interests and hobbies including music (she sang in Sweet Adelines for many years), water skiing at the lake, reading, and made many close friends in Community Bible Study, both in San Juan Capistrano and Hanford. Shirley loved the Lord and attended church her entire life reading her Bible daily.
Shirley is survived by her son, Kelly and wife Teresa of Hanford; her daughter Janet of Springfield; four grandchildren Matt Voyles (Stephanie) of Hanford, Kyle Crank; Christian Crank (Shannon) of Florida; and Carter Voyles (Monika) of Hanford. Shirley was blessed with five great grandchildren – Reagan Rosa, Ayden Rosa, Olivia Voyles, Jace Crank, and Madilyn Voyles. Shirley was predeceased by all her siblings – Barbara, Wanda, and Cecil.
