

Terry Ray Pfau, a lifelong Californian and devoted public servant, passed away on January 23, 2026. He was born on September 22, 1948, in Monterey, California.
Having honorably served in the United States Navy, Terry lived a life defined by service, integrity, and loyalty. He spent many years with the Monterey County Sheriff’s Department, where he served as a Deputy and later as Undersheriff under Gordon Sonne. He was deeply proud of his work and was known for his sharp wit, strong sense of duty, and unforgettable, often hair-raising stories that could make you laugh- or hold your breath.
Above all else, Terry was a family man. He was a loving husband to his wife, Teresa Jessica Pfau, whom he cherished deeply. He was a devoted father to Jocelyn Pfau Kristy and a loving stepfather to Sarah Belle Taylor. He was a proud grandfather to Shelby Kristy and Morgan Kristy, who brought him immense joy.
Terry was preceded in death by his former wife, Suzanne, and by his son, Jeremy Pfau.
To those who knew him, Terry will be remembered as a good man-strong, loyal, generous with his stories, and unwavering in his love for the people closest to him. His love, strength, and stories will be carried forward forever.
